Al amir hussein'S PROFILE

Al amirHussein

I was Born in Mombasa Kenya and I grew up Playing on the narrow Arabic influenced streets of the Old Town Mombasa.I always traveled with my trader father along the coast of East Africa. The colors of the coastline, sky and buildings fascinated me and I sketched the Swahili and Arabs of the Kenyan coast, Seascapes and Street scenes as I watched my father trade with them. Am a self-taught artist with a great depth for perspective as my coastal scenes depict. The street scenes that I Paint.

In many of my paintings you can feel the heat emanating from the white-washed walls and want to take refuge inside. The stone walls keep people cool, even as they sip their strong sweet coffee. Even to this day the Old Town has changed little - the narrow streets, the bright white walls, and the ornate woodwork of the doors and lentils remain as a reminder of the past.

I am inspired by life and everything around me, my past experiences and my parents. My father with sketching and sculpture and teaching me to use my imagination and creative eye. My mother with painting and her horticulture, always having our home filled with red fiery coloured flowers. Nature also plays an important role in my art as I love the textures of rocks, water, plants and the colour of sunsets.
